Abstract

When interpreting literature the interpreter utilizes different contexts to assign meaning to elements of the text or the text in a whole. The present questionnaire study is part of a mixed methods approach and categorizes context preferences of 467 German teacher students. In the first place 4 types of preferences were extracted using k-means. After that a latent class analysis was carried out to hone and statistically secure the found patterns. The article, to be located in the field of research on teacher education, is addressed to education researchers who want to implement a cluster analysis autonomously, reflects upon the needed background knowledge as well as possibilities and limitations of the employed methods.
